While many viewers are likely sick of the seemingly endless arrival of new superhero films, long-time comic fans have long been asking for a proper Deadpool film. They don't have long to wait anymore, and overnight the first full trailer for next year's aptly-named Deadpool was released.
The character is something of an anti-hero in the Marvel comics world, with a fairly loose connection with the X-Men series. What sets him apart is that he's something of a 'meta' character, often breaking the fourth wall and satirising various comic tropes and characters.
Ryan Reynolds appeared as Deadpool - aka Wade Wilson - in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but it's fair to say the portrayal of the character there was not particularly warmly received by fans after it departed pretty radically from the comics. Reynolds is reprising his role in the new film, which is looking like an interpretation of the character much closer to the one seen in comics.
You can check out the trailer below, or click here for the 'Red Band' trailer featuring much stronger language and violence (obviously less safe for work). With most superhero films strictly 'family friendly', Deadpool doesn't seem to pulling many punches for a lower age rating.
Deadpool also stars Homeland's Morena Baccarin alongside Ed Skrein, TJ Miller and Gina Carano. Newcomer Brianna Hildebrand features as another cult favourite character, the unusually-named Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
