Sir David Attenborough is, at least for the majority of the English-speaking world, is the voice of nature. Earnest and all-knowing, for generations of television viewers, the 90-year-old nature filmmaker has brought us on a journey around every corner of the earth, revealing flora and fauna as diverse and interesting as they are beautiful. Basically, the BBC doesn’t mess around.
Which is why the trailer for Attenborough’s new show Planet Earth II makes for the most promising minute of video you’ll watch online all day. Offering the first glimpse of the dramatic exploration of life on earth, we see everything from Gila monsters to a giraffe being brutally taken down by a lioness. There’s even a paddling sloth making its way casually across a pool.
Shot in stunning 4K high definition using drone technology, the limited footage still manages to make a lasting impression, even when pummelled by YouTube’s max resolution of 1080p. Expected to come to screens by November and running for six episodes, let the inimitable Attenborough get you excited in the meantime.
