While winter brings the coldest and darkest days of the year, it also brings the best of TV back to our screens. To wit, the trailer for the sixth season of Homeland has been released.
The popular Showtime espionage drama, which started with a bang as Damian Lewis’s Manchurian Candidate was well and truly vetted by Claire Danes’ CIA agent, has had a number of ups and downs. But last year’s Season Five, which shifted the action to Berlin, drew rave reviews and sets the scenes for this year’s run of episodes, set – no prizes for guessing why – against the backdrop of the US Presidential election.
Carrie Mathison (Danes) has relocated again, now living in Brooklyn. The new seasons will take place in the time between Election Day and the inauguration of a fictional president. As per the Homeland synopsis, “it’s a strange, transitional time in the halls of government filled with anxiety and different competing interests, where a very fragile and complex transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect.”
The Emmy Award-winning show has already kicked off production of the Season Seven, which is shooting on locations in South Africa, while Season Eight, announced as the final in the series’ run, is expected to return events to Berlin.
Homeland returns to US screens on January 15th, with its Irish premiere expected in the days following. You can watch the trailer in full below:
