When you’re a chess hustler in New York’s Washington Square Park, picking a mark and taking their king is all in a day’s work. Unless, of course, the 25-year-old Norwegian chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, also known by his nickname the ‘Mozart of Chess’, happens to be strolling past.
A new viral video has emerged showing the famous player leaving the Marshall Chess Club in Manhattan, heading over to the park and crushing his opponents in about 10 moves.
“At the moment, I didn’t know who it was,” said one of Carlsen’s victims. “I was just playing. I tried to win, but when I saw him make a move, already I knew it was like... you know... he’s a very strong player. In like 10 moves, he checkmated me.”
