A large area in north Cork city has lost water supply this afternoon because of a broken water main.
The council is advising people in the Mayfield area that the water supply was switched off as engineers work to fix the problem.
Areas affected include the Old Youghal Road, St. Lukes, Middle Glanmire Road, Audley Place, Roche's Buildings, Summerhill North, Glenthorn, Ballincollie Road, Ballyhooley Road, Parklands and surrounding areas.
Cork City Council says it is trying to minimise the effects and that some discolouration of water may also occur.
It adds that this discoloration is harmless and will clear in a short time.
It is advising people to check the clarity of the water at the kitchen tap before using drink vending machines, washing machines, dishwashers etc.
The Council says it regrets any inconvenience caused. There is no indication as to when it may be fixed.
