We all know how annoying those pesky pigeons can be, especially if your trying to get from A to B. However, one Ukrainian city has come up with solution to get rid of the suburban birds, by planning to get them drunk.
Officials in the city of Sumy came up with the odd idea, after growing tired of the amount of pigeons present in the area.
What was deemed the final straw for local citizens, was the increasing amount of bird droppings on the statue of Ukrainian poet, Taras Shevchenko.
The reason the people of Sumy are so keen to get rid of the pesky pigeons, as they will be celebrating the founding of their city in 1652 this September. Locals are keen to have Sumy looking it’s best on the national holiday ‘City Day’, but believes that won’t be possible if those pesky pigeons are flying all over the place.
‘Let’s give them wine-soaked bread and then deport them somewhere where they’ll wake up the next day,’ announced Alexei Movchan, who came up with the drunken pigeon idea.
Movchan who is the head of the city branch of the ruling Party of Regions denied the controversial move would infringe animal rights groups. He said that drunken pigeons is a tried and tested custom practised regularly by an Orthodox Christian monastery in west Ukraine.
While Sumy may have solved their pigeon problems, for now, we will have to put up with our pigeons flying all over the place, sober and free.
