Weddings have become expensive affairs in recent years especially with the addition of the pinch. Many brides  are finding  ways to cut corners and squeeze every penny in order to have their dream wedding.

However in Serbia  brides have another solution to their wedding money woes.  In what has now become an annual event, 100 brides  gather on the streets of Belgrade  in order  to run 150 metres for their ultimate dream wedding.

The Serbian brides usually dress in all their wedding finery aside from heels of course however some brides try and increase their chances by wearing shorter dresses.

The lucky bride who won her dream wedding was Sanja Cigoj and managed to complete the sprint in 19 seconds.

However the two runners up weren’t left empty handed winning the dresses they were competing in as well as suitable shoes to match the dresses on their big day.

The Serbian bride race seems to be catching on across the globe also with many races taking place for brides to compete for the perfect wedding dress. In the US the Running of the Brides, which takes place twice a year, sees brides running through Filene’s Basement to get their hands on dramatically reduced wedding gowns.

One bride who competed in the Serbian bride race joked that she probably wouldn’t be able to have her wedding since she didn’t win; ‘My groom was waiting for me at the finish line, but (since I didn’t win), the wedding is off this year.’
