Is your big day coming soon and want to save a few cents, well here’s an idea, why not have a mass wedding?
That’s what 6 couples in the UK decided to.  The 12 strangers responded to an advert in a local newspaper and decided to make history, by holding the UK’s first mass wedding.
The Bath and North East Somerset Council came up with the idea of hosting a mass wedding to celebrate the 175th anniversary of civil marriages in England and Wales.
With 13 registrars watching on, a one-hour service was held at the 18th-century Guildhall venue in Bath.
‘I’m delighted that Bath has been able to host such a special event, it really is something very special,’ explained the local authority’s chairman Rob Appleyard.
In addition to the dozen brides and grooms, hundreds of friends and family filled the historic building and gathered outside to share in their joy
Gail Ash, who along with partner Dale made up one of the happy couples, said the occasion had been ‘absolutely beautiful’, although she admitted they had been ‘a bit apprehensive’ about sharing their big day with ten strangers.
After the success of this strange but special occasion, who knows Ireland’s first mass wedding may not be a too distant idea in the future.
