This sale comes two months after the the property and 310-acre island went on the international market after its owners were put into receivership by NAMA.
The castle had been a popular offering - it was viewed by interested parties from the UK, US, Germany, Canada, Gulf States and China.
Colliers International has confirmed the sale - but the new owner wishes to remain anonymous.
A spokesman from the company did however say that the buyers are, "a family with strong local interests."
It it understood that the a 18-hole golf course, a clubhouse and 48 garden lodges are among the new owners' plans for the property.
The representative from Colliers International added, "I think their aim is to create one of Ireland's foremost leisure resorts."
