Independent Waterford Councillor Joe Conway has been elected to the Seanad, following a recount that took place earlier this morning.

Councillor Conway's votes surpassed those of the outgoing Fianna Fáil Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee.

The original result was affirmed following a recount requested by her.

He continued to have fifth highest number of preferences after Clifford-Lee’s votes were distributed and he was elected on the 19th Count.
