class="MsoNormal">Limerick criminal Wayne Dundon has started High Court proceedings challenging his detention in a segregated unit at Cloverhill Prison.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">The 34-year-old from Lenihan Avenue in Ballinacurra Weston was jailed for 6 years last April by the Special Criminal Court for intimidation and making a threat to kill.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">Mr. Dundon claims he has been unfairly segregated in the D1 block of Cloverhill Prison which is usually reserved for psychiatric prisoners and inmates who have infringed prison rules.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">He has been told by the Cloverhill authorities that he is being kept away from the mainstream prison population for his own safety.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">He also says he has been deprived of normal visits with his wife and children and has instead received 15-minute screened visits.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">However Ms. Justice Maureen Clark was told that Wayne Dundon has been allowed one contact visit with his family since these proceedings were initiated in July.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">His lawyers want a full judicial review of his segregation which they claim is in breach of prison procedures.
class="MsoNormal">
class="MsoNormal">The case has been put back until tomorrow.
