It’s time to break out the barbeques and bask in the sunshine with a “really lovely weekend ahead”, according to weather expert Alan O’Reilly.
Met Éireann is forecasting temperatures up to 20C for the next three days, with dry and clear conditions across the weekend.
People are being urged to enjoy it while they can, with more unsettled conditions on the way next week.
On Breakfast Briefing this morning, Carlow Weather forecaster Alan O’Reilly said it’s sunshine all the way for the next three days.
“Yes indeed, it’s going to be a lovely fine day today and a really lovely weekend,” he said.
“It is certainly time to get out the barbeques and get ready for some late spring sunshine. A lovely weekend ahead.”
He said temperatures will hit 20C and “maybe even 21C” tomorrow with lots of sunshine, especially in the south of the country.
He said there will be no record temperatures but “with the light winds and sunshine winds and sunshine it is going to feel pleasant and warm”.
“The only thing is, if you’re staying out, maybe camping, it is going to turn cold at night-time,” he said.
“There are going to be some chilly nights so maybe if you are out on the patio, it is going to get cool later in the night but certainly it is going to be some lovely weather during the day.”
Mr O’Reilly said a jet stream has been behind the recent unsettled weather but a high-pressure system is now pushing that away from the country.
He said people should enjoy the weather while it lasts with a turn on the way from Monday.
“Make the most of three days because unfortunately it is going to turn cooler and more unsettled from Monday,” he said.
“There has been a lot of uncertainty on the weather models, but it does look like we’re going to see a return to some cloudy and showery weather with temperatures back down around normal or even a little low so make the most of the weekend.”
