The worst of the wet and windy weather is over but a band of rain is still moving across the country, a forecaster has said.
Weather warnings issued for the weekend have expired but several areas saw heavy rain and some flooding - especially in the south and south-east.
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather told Newstalk Breakfast the worst is over.
"Things have calmed down thankfully now, the wind has mainly abated," he said.
"There is still some rain in the west of the country that's going to spread across the country through this morning and early afternoon before clearing.
"But thankfully that's not going to bring high rainfall amounts."
'Over 120 millimetres of rain'
Mr O'Reilly said some flooding still remains this morning.
"The south and south-east will still be seeing some flooding this morning because of the amount of rain that fell on high land - especially the Comeragh Mountains," he said.
"The weather model suggested over 120 millimetres of rain was to fall and based on some of the reports, that does look likely to have happened.
"That's why there was flooding reported in part of the south and south-east."
Mr O'Reilly said people "would still want to take caution" in these areas this morning.
He added that parts of Kildare, Dublin and Meath were expecting more severe weather but "Cork and Waterford took the brunt of it".
Weather forecast
The forecast shows it'll be a mostly cloudy morning with patchy rain and drizzle spreading from the northwest but becoming drier and brighter in the southwest with sunny spells.
During the afternoon, the cloud and rain will become largely confined to Ulster and north Leinster with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers elsewhere.
Much of the country will become dry in the evening with highest temperatures of 11 to 16C.
Tonight will be dry across the bulk of the country but there is the chance of a few showers in Leinster.
Temperatures tonight will also drop back to between 6 to 9C.
