The worst of the cold snap is over, with temperatures set to be milder this weekend.

A Status Yellow Ice warning for the entire country expires at midday today and temperatures could reach as high as 13 degrees in some places tomorrow.

Met Éireann Meteorologist Aoife Kealy predicts that it is unlikely to see a return to sub-zero temperatures next week.

"For the early days of next week anyway it does like we'll be kind of sticking in that southerly sort of an airflow", she said.

"Definitely for Monday, holding on to that milder weather."

"Later on in the week there's a little more uncertainty, but it doesn't look like we'll be getting back into quite as cold a spell as we have had."

Wind and rain

Rain and wind are forecast for this weekend as well, but the freezing fog seen in recent weeks is expected to disappear, making driving conditions safer.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather also told The Hard Shoulder there is some relief in sight.

"A good bit of relief [is] coming, but temperatures-wise and also the wind will blow those turbines to generate some renewable electricity", he said.

"It's going to turn much milder but wetter, I'm afraid, but also windy over the weekend."
