Westmeath: Post mortem results expected on man's body later

Results of a post mortem examination are due later today on the body of man found in Co Westmeath.

Belgian native Stefan Posschier, who was aged in his 60s, was found dead at a house on a country road in Rattin - just a few kilometres away from the village of Miltownpass.

A relative made the discovery on Tuesday evening and raised the alarm with Gardaí.

His body was removed from the scene and taken to hospital on Wednesday, where a post mortem was due to take place.

The Garda Technical Bureau has carried out a forensic examination at the scene.

The discovery is being treated as an unexplained death.

However it is believed he died in violent circumstances.

A person of interest is understood to be helping officers with their inquiries.
