A man in his 60s has died following a serious assault in Westport, County Mayo, on Saturday morning.
Peter McDermott had been receiving treatment at Mayo University Hospital but passed away earlier yesterday evening, Sunday, 10th September.
The incident occurred on High Street in Westport at approximately 1.20am on Saturday morning.

A man in his 20s who was arrested in relation to the incident has been released.
A post-mortem examination is is to be carried out in due course.
Gardaí are appealing to those in the vicinity of High Street in Westport between 1.00am and 2.00am on Saturday to come forward with any information.
