Sending Jedward to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest for the third time will “work like a charm.”

That’s according to one fan, who spoke to Newstalk’s Henry McKean in Liverpool after Ireland did not make it past the Eurovision semi-final.

“My nan's from Ireland, she would have been very sad they didn’t qualify,” he said.

“I think if you send Jedward, that’s the third time … third time's a charm.

“Jedward will do it.”

‘Politics’

Another fan told Henry the result was “down to politics.”

“In my eyes, when someone loses and it’s not the right judgement call – it’s not fair,” he said.

“They have a home to go to to face their wives or children and they've been pulled out of the competition when they shouldn’t have.”

Declan from Carlingford said he was “a wee bit disappointed by the result.”

“Sadly, I don't know what's going on – songs got through that shouldn't have gotten through,” he said.

“I feel like the band give fun, good energy, and it just didn't work out tonight for them.”

‘Shame’

Another woman said Wild Youth “did really well, but the acts on Tuesday were so strong.”

“It was gonna be so tough to get through, I think they did the best that they could,” she said.

One Irish supporter told Henry, “There's no shame, there's no shame at all.”

“I'm very, very proud of how we did,” he said.

Another interviewee did not share the same belief.

“Maybe they just didn't make it because you weren't good,” she said.
