A Wexford councillor has claimed the county is a victim of "medical apartheid".

Independent Michael Sheehan has said HSE delays over plans for a new primary care and ambulance centre in New Ross are putting lives at risk.

"They have since said they're going out for a public tender and they're putting it out to tender but it's not out there yet," he said.

"So, I'm looking for answers as to find out when there will be a tender for New Ross and a tender for South Wexford.

"It is becoming a case of medical apartheid where your Eircode will determine what kind of service you get from the HSE."

Cllr Sheehan said the old fire station on Michael Street in the town centre is earmarked for redevelopment - but he wants a clear time-line on when the new services will be available.
