Following a recent case in which an Australian couple had to sit besides a corpse on a long-haul flight, some have wondered what exactly happens when a passenger on a plane dies?
Former cabin crew and Red Eye podcast host Ally Murphy told Moncrieff that, while it is rare, flight attendants are trained for such an event.
"I did have a passenger that passed away on my flight and on that chance he was in his seat and we were alerted to his being unwell by the passenger sat next to him," she said.
"It was impossible to treat him in his seat because he was sat in economy and he didn't have a normal pulse breathing rate so he needed CPR basically.
"We couldn't do that in his seat so we picked him up and took him into the back galley and started CPR on him."
Ms Murphy said that flight attendants will typically try to treat a person in their seat if possible, while the pilots will look to make an emergency landing depending on the severity of the incident.
