If you were a tween or teen back in the mid 2000s, chances are a significant portion of your life consisted of going on Bebo.

With its custom skins, whiteboard and that constant source of scorn amongst friends - the top 16 - Bebo was far less sophisticated than its more streamlined (but infinitely duller) successors.

For a while Bebo was more popular than Google (at least in Ireland) but sometime around 2007 it jumped the shark.

Bebo was sold off, once in 2008 and again in 2010, but neither of its new owners could stop it from vanishing into obscurity as soon as Facebook came around.

Earlier this year Bebo's original owners, who sold it for $850 million four years ago, bought it back again for just one million.

And now they're relaunching it.

Michael Birch, one half of the original owners, hasn't said much about what the new Bebo will be like, but what he does say is pretty self-deprecating and humorous:

Will you give the new Bebo a go? Or is your brain too scarred from all those valuable childhood hours you wasted on it?
