Food critics often feature in movies, TV shows and other popular media – but most people are likely unfamiliar with the day-to-day realities of the job.

Award-winning food writer and weekly restaurant critic with the Irish Times Corinna Hardgrave told The Anton Savage Show some of her top pet peeves.

“A really big gripe of mine is truffle oil, which is absolute poison and I want everyone to know that," she said.

"No truffles will have had anything to do with that truffle oil, it's a chemical.

"You see restaurants just pour it in a mayo and they call it 'truffle chips' - and it's horrendous stuff

"I love truffles but like truffle oil always makes me worry about the chef's palette because it's so vile."
