Today is Nollaig na mBan or ‘Women's Little Christmas’ as it is also known and marks the end of the festive season.
It’s also more than likely the day when you realise your Christmas tree is well passed its sell-by-date and needs to come down along with the rest of the decorations... sigh.
But fear not, as you make way for spring 2015, you can also put your tree to good use by recycling it at centres across the country.
In Dublin, 12 centres are accepting your much-loved Christmas trees free-of-charge from January 2 to 19:
- Windmill Road Bring Centre, Crumlin, Dublin 12
- Fairview - Clontarf Road, (In front of the football pitches), Dublin 3
- Gulistan Terrace Bring Centre, Rathmines, Dublin 6
- Albert College Car Park, Glasnevin, Dublin 9
- Oscar Traynor Road Bring Centre, Coolock, Dublin 5
- Mellowes Park Depot - beside Dublin City Council Civic Centre on Mellowes Road, Finglas, Dublin 11
- Pigeon House Road Recycling Centre, Ringsend, Dublin 4
- Beside the Bottle Banks at Walkinstown Green, Dublin 12
- Milltown Car Park, Milltown Road, Dublin 6
- Sandymount - Sandymount Car park, Strand Road, (opposite Gilford Road), Dublin 4
- Collins Ave Bring Centre, (opposite DCU entrance), Dublin 9
- Croke Park, Cusack Stand (via St Joseph's Ave.)

In Cork you can drop off your tree from January 5 to 31 at the following places:
- Civic Amenity Recycling Centre, Kinsale Road
- Ballinlough Park (adjacent to Gus Healy Swimming Pool)
- Clashduv Park, Togher (adjacent to bring site)
- Green at junction of Murmount Road and Iona Road, Montenotte
- Green adjacent to Sam Allen Sports Complex, Knockfree Avenue, Gurranabraher.
In Cavan, Repak centres will be accepting old trees. Here's where:
- Bailieborough Recycling Centre, Adelaide Row, Shercock Road
- Ballyconnell Recycling Centre
- Cavan Recycling Centre, Corranure
- While in Galway, you can bring your tree along to two locations:
- Hunters Depot at Lough Rusheen on the Barna Road
- Merlin Woods Depot in Doughiska
In Mayo, trees may be recycled in the following locations until January 17:
- Achill: Beside the Bottle Banks at Keel.
- Ballina: Reception area at Rathroeen, Landfill Site, Killala Road, (Call 096 75959 for opening times).
- Ballinrobe: Mayo County Council Area Office, Kilmaine Road.
- Ballyhaunis: Beside Bottle Banks in the car-park, Ballyhaunis.
- Belmullet: Civic Office Car-Park, Church Road, Belmullet.
- Castlebar: Castlebar Area Depot, beside Topoil at Cash & Carry, Moneen.
- Claremorris: Thornhill house, (Old Council Office), Killeenfarna
- Louisburgh: Car park, Chapel Street, Louisburgh.
- Newport: Recycling Centre at Derrinumera Landfill Site. (Contact 098 41632 for opening times).
- Swinford: Mayo County Council Pound, Kilkelly Road, Swinford.
- Westport: Council Depot, Ballinrobe Road, Westport. (open from 8am – 4:30pm)
There are two spots in Wicklow which are accepting Christmas trees from January 5 to 17:
- Murrough Recycling Centre, Wicklow town
- GreenKing Composting at Coolbeg
