Whirlpool is warning that some of its tumble-dryers pose a fire risk and should be immediately unplugged.
The company said anyone who owns a dryer made by one of its subsidiaries between 2004 and September 2015 should stop using it until they are sure it is safe.
Customers are advised to take down their machine's serial and model numbers and check if they are affected on the website indesithotpointsafety.com.
You can also call 1800 804 320.
Dryers made by companies including Indesit, Hotpoint, Creda, Swan and Proline are included in the recall which begins at the start of August.
The fault can see a build-up of fluff coming into contact with the machine's heating element and catching fire.
The company is recalling the dryers and offering repairs or replacements for free
There is also the option of a “heavily discounted” upgrade to a higher spec model.
