One third of parents take their children out of school for a holiday.

A survey by AA travel insurance reveals that the main reason parents go on holidays during term time is to avoid paying peak prices during traditional school breaks.

The Irish National Teachers Organisation says it is disrupting to a classroom, if children go on holiday during term time.

Peter Mullan, a senior official with the INTO, says it can cause disruption both to the kids who've gone on holiday and to those in the classroom:

The Education Minister says he can understand why parents take their children out of school to go on holidays but that parents need to be aware of the impact it can have on their child's schooling.

 

Ray Silke is a father of four and a secondary school teacher in Galway - as well a former All Ireland Winning Football Captain with Galway - he told Jonathan why he takes his children out of school to go on holidays.
