You've probably never seen one on a beach in Ireland and thanks to our weather there has never been much need for the face-kini.
The colourful full-face masks became popular in China two years ago, particularly in the eastern city of Qingdao.
Worn alongside other traditional swimming gear, it covers the entire head and neck apart from the eyes, mouth and nostrils.
Face-kini wearers in China have taken to wearing the garment in a bid to keep their skin fair, while also protecting themselves from UV rays.
Pale skin has traditionally been associated with wealth in China, with darker skin linked to poverty.
But it seems the face-kini may be about to catch on outside China, with New York style magazine CR Fashion Book publishing a photoshoot featuring models in the full-face masks.
