Sometimes there's an exchange on Twitter that's just perfect - a simple but delightful show of mutual respect between well-known people or groups.
Such was the case with a casual exchange between William Shatner and the person manning the NASA Twitter feed yesterday. There's something very special about seeing one of science-fiction's most iconic presences engaging with real world space explorers. And there's no better way to remind everyone of the good work being done aboard the ISS:
@WilliamShatner Good day, Captain. #ISS is in standard orbit and Commander Swanson has the conn. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
— NASA (@NASA) August 2, 2014
This isn't the first time Shatner has received some kind words from NASA. Earlier this year he was awarded the organisation's highest civilian honour, the Distinguished Public Service medal.
He also made headlines after having a Twitter chat with Commander Chris Hadfield while Hadfield was still in orbit.
@WilliamShatner Yes, Standard Orbit, Captain. And we're detecting signs of life on the surface.
