A key witness in the trial of John Dundon, who is accused of murdering Shane Geoghegan in Limerick in 2008, says she now fears for her life. April Collins has been giving evidence against Dundon, who denies having anything to do with the death of the Garryowen rugby player.
Collins is a former partner of John Dundon's brother and arrived for a second day at the Special Criminal Court under heavy armed guard.
Yesterday she gave evidence of two meetings with Dundon that are the main focus of the State's case. The first took place the day before Shane Geoghegan was killed.
She claims she was at Dundon's house on the Hyde Road in Limerick when he ordered a hit on a man who lived near the popular rugby player.
She also gave evidence of a second meeting in a pub car park just hours after Shane was shot dead and outlined how Dundon flew into a rage after realising they had killed the wrong man.
Under cross-examination today she said she decided to go to Gardai amid growing fears for her own safety and that of her family.
Just before the trial was adjourned this afternoon she said she was sorry that an 'innocent man' had been killed in such a way. She is due to continue giving evidence on Tuesday.
