A key witness has told the John Dundon murder trial that he hired the hitman who mistakenly killed Shane Geoghegan in Limerick 4 years ago.
Dundon, of Hyde Park in Limerick, is accused of murdering the popular rugby player at the Clonmore estate in Dooradoyle on November 9th 2008.
Geoghegan died after being shot 5 times as he made his way home to his girlfriend after watching a rugby game with some friends.
27-year-old Barry Doyle from Portland Row was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of his murder last year. John Dundon is accused of hiring Doyle to kill a man called John McNamara, but that he shot Mr. Geoghegan by mistake.
April Collins, an ex-girlfriend of John's brother Ger, took to the stand today.
She told the Special Criminal Court that she was with the two brothers when John ordered the hit on McNamara the night before Shane was shot dead. She also described a second meeting that took place in a pub car park the next morning.
She said John Dundon shifted from sheer excitement to anger and panic as he realised they had killed the wrong man.
The trial continues before a panel of three judges at the Special Criminal Court.
