Investigators said she was on a morning walk when she was grabbed and dragged into the home of a man.
It is believed she was attacked by a pit bull dog and held captive for five hours, where she was repeatedly raped.
She was then discovered semi-conscious on a path.
A passerby noticed her, called the police and the woman was was taken to San Francisco General Hospital.
A 47-year-old man is being held on suspicion of kidnapping and rape.
