A man and a woman have died in separate drowning incidents in Counties Leitrim and Cavan.
In County Cavan, the body of a woman in her 20s was recovered near the shoreline at Lough Gowna by Cavan Fire Services and Civil Defence shortly after 9:30pm last night.
Gardaí attended the scene and the woman’s body has been removed to the mortuary at Navan Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The Coroner has been notified.
In County Leitrim, a man in his 70s died in a diving accident at Lough Allen last night.
He was snorkelling at Spencer Harbour in Drumkeeran at 9pm when he failed to return to the surface.
His body was later recovered by local emergency services.
His remains have been removed to the mortuary at Sligo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination and the Coroner has been notified.
