A man in his 30s has been found dead in a house in Carlow town.
He was found unresponsive with serious injuries at the house in the New Oak Estate shortly after 11.40am last night.
Emergency services treated him at the scene before transporting him to St. Luke’s Hospital, in Kilkenny, where he was later pronounced dead.
A short time later, armed Gardaí arrested a woman in Carlow town.
She is now being questioned at a Garda Station in the county.
Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
They are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the New Oak Estate and nearby areas around the time of the incident and may have camera footage.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Carlow Garda Station.
A Family Liaison Officer has also been appointed to support the family.
The local Coroner has been notified and the services of the Garda Technical Bureau and State Pathologist have been requested.
The scene has been preserved for a forensic and technical examination and a post-mortem examination has been arranged.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
