A woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in County Louth in which a man was seriously injured.

On Tuesday, a man in his 40s was cycling his bike near Whitehouse Cross when he was hit by a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.

He was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where remains in a critical condition.

A woman in her 30s was arrested this morning and is being detained at a Garda Station in the Lough-Cavan-Monaghan Division.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding this incident.
