A Cavan child-minder has been charged in connection with an assault on a baby.

32-year-old Sandra Higgins from The Beeches in Drumgola was brought before Cavan District Court charged with intentionally or recklessly causing harm to a 10-month-old girl in March last year.

She has been remanded on bail.

The court heard the accused was arrested at her home at 8:05am this morning and brought to to Cavan Garda station where she was formally charged.

The accused is alleged to have intentionally or recklessly caused harm to a 10-month-old girl on the 28th of March 2012 at the accused's home. She has been remanded on bail of €500 subject to a number of conditions.

One of those is that she does not make direct or indirect contact with any witnesses involved in the case.

Judge Sean McBride granted an application for legal aid. He also remanded the accused on continuing bail until June 27th to Cavan District Court, for preparation and service of the book of evidence.
