A woman in her 20s has died and five others were injured after a car crash in west Cork. Two of the passengers are in a critical condition in hospital.

This single vehicle crash happened at around 1.45am when the car went out of control on a roundabout leading into Skibbereen town on the N71.

A female passenger died and the male driver who is also in his 20s was arrested at the scene before being taken to hospital.

4 others were also hospitalised as a result of the crash. Two of them are said to be fighting for their lives.

The road was closed for a time to allow forensic experts examine the scene. Meanwhile the car is also due to be inspected.
