A woman in her 40s has died after a crash between a car and a van in Enfield, County Kildare on Monday evening. 

The deceased was the driver of the car and two young children travelling with her were taken to hospital; their injuries are serious but their condition is stable. 

The driver of the van was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. 

The R148 at Cloncurry in between Enfield and Kilcock will remain closed until a Garda examination of the scene takes place this morning. 

Any witnesses have been asked to get in touch with Leixlip Garda station on 01 666 7800.
