A woman has died in a road crash in Dublin.
It happened on Abbey Street in the city centre this lunchtime as it is understood a vehicle was being driven along Luas tram tracks.
Gardai have detained a man in connection with the incident.
Shortly before 1pm this afternoon two pedestrians - a man and a woman - were injured when they were struck by a car on Middle Abbey Street close to the Jervis Street Luas stop.
The pair were taken to the Mater Hospital where the woman who is aged in her 50s was pronounced dead.
The man is believed to have suffered leg injuries.
Car driver arrested
The driver of the car who is in his 30s was arrested under the Road Traffic Act at the scene.
He is being detained at Store Street Garda Station.
The area is sealed off for a technical exam and is expected to be closed to traffic for 3 to 4 hours.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
These witnesses say the car was driving on the Red Line Luas tracks.
