Gardaí in Roscommon are investigating after a woman died when she was hit by a car.

It happened at Kilmaryal, Elphin at around 8.00pm on Thursday night.

The woman, a pedestrian, was aged in her 60s.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, a man aged in his 50s, was not injured.

The road has been closed to facilitate an examination of the area by Garda Forensic Collision investigator.

Local diversions are also in place.
