A woman has died after she was hit by a lorry in Co Kildare.

It happened at 12.30pm on Thursday at Main Street in Clane.

The woman, who is understood to be aged in her 80s, was taken to Naas General Hospital.

However she was later pronounced dead.

A post-mortem is scheduled to take place at a later date.

The services of Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested.

The road has been closed and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They are also appealing to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time to make this footage available to them.
