A woman in her 60s has died in a road crash in County Mayo. 

The crash took place at 4.30 this afternoon on the N59 in Newport and Gardaí were called to the scene.

The driver of the car and another passenger are also being treated at Mayo University Hospital for serious injuries.

The four occupants of a second car have also been hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries.

The N59, Newport to Mulranny road remains shut as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out an examination.

Any witnesses - particularly those with dash cam footage - have been asked to contact Westport Garda Station.
