In the North the mother of a toddler found dead in Lisburn has been charged with his murder. The body of Brendan Owens was discovered in a house in Trinity Terrace in the city in July.

A post mortem examination has since been carried out.

Michelle Owens - dressed in blue trousers and jumper - was surrounded by prison officers at Lisburn Magistrates' Court.

The 27-year-old did not speak during the brief appearance where a detective said he could connect her to the charge.

No bail application was made. She has been remanded in custody and will appear again next month.

A 51-year-old man who was arrested yesterday has been released on bail.
