The woman found dead in Midleton, Co Cork, yesterday has been named locally as Daena Walsh. 

The mother of two died following an incident at a home in Midleton yesterday around 4.15pm. 

Ms Walsh was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead shortly after. 

A man in his 30s was arrested and is currently detained at a Garda Station in the Southern Region. 

Emergency services also attended the scene of a fire in another part of the building. 

The scene has been preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. 

An incident room has been established at Midleton Garda Station, and a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation. 

A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has also been assigned to support the family. 

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information in connection with the incident in Middleton to come forward. 

They are particularly interested in anyone with camera footage, including dashcam recordings from vehicles in the Connolly Street and Main Street areas of Middleton yesterday evening.
