A woman has died in a suspected hit and run in north Dublin.
It happened at the Cross Guns Bridge on the Phibsborough Road just after 9pm on Wednesday night.
The woman, a pedestrian aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a car which failed to remain at the scene.
Her body has since been removed with a post mortem due to take place.
The scene of the collision is preserved for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
The car involved had come to the attention of Gardaí shortly before the incident, and a referral has been made to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).
“GSOC received a referral from An Garda Síochána on the night of Wednesday 4 October, following a road traffic incident in the Phibsborough area of Dublin," GSOC said.
"The matter is now under examination by GSOC and no further comment will be made at this time," it added.
The section of road from Cross Guns Bridge to the junction of Phibsborough Road and Connaught Street is closed with local diversions in place.
Car recovered
The suspect car, a 07-D silver Honda Civic, has since been recovered in the Phibsboro area.
The car has been removed to a secure location where it is undergoing a technical and forensic examination.
Gardaí continue to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with any information on the driver of the 07-D silver Honda Civic, or who saw this vehicle in the wider Phibsborough area in the hours before the fatal collision, to contact them.
Any road users with camera footage who travelled in the Phibsborough area between 8.30pm and 9.30pm yesterday are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
An incident room has been set up at Mountjoy Garda station.
