A woman who was hospitalised after the car she was travelling in plunged into the water from a pier in Arklow, Co. Wicklow has been discharged.

The Polish woman, who is in her 20s, managed to escape after the car smashed through a barrier into the water.

A man believed to be Hungarian was also in the car at the time.

A male body was found on a beach near Arklow a short time later and Gardai are now trying to establish if it is the same man who was in the car when it entered the sea.

A post mortem on the man's body will take place tomorrow
