A 26-year-old woman has been released from garda custody following yesterday's stabbing in Drogheda, Co Louth.

Gardaí say a man in his 30s was treated in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for neck injuries.

The woman is due to appear in court on January 9th in relation to the incident.

In a separate case, a man being held in connection with the stabbing of a woman in Co Cavan is receiving medical treatment in hospital.

The man in his 50s was arrested after gardaí were called to a house in Kilnaleck on the afternoon of Christmas Eve.

The woman who was attacked suffered serious wounds to her upper body.

She is in Cavan General Hospital, where she is believed to be in a serious but stable condition.
