A woman in her 60s has died after she was struck by a truck while out walking in County Kildare.

Gardaí said the woman was run over on Duke Street in Athy at around 2:30pm this afternoon.

She was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The woman’s body has been removed to Naas Hospital where a postmortem will be carried out.

Gardaí are carrying out a forensic examination of the scene and local diversions are in place.

Investigators are calling fro witnesses to contact them.
