An Oasis fan who impaled her armpit on a gate at a 2009 Slane Castle concert of the band has been awarded damages of €75,000. Karen McCormack (27) from Deerpark, Ashbourne in Co. Meath sued concert promoters MCD.
Miss McCormack did not have a VIP ticket for the Oasis concert but she managed to get in to the restricted area.
After the gig she and a friend asked for directions and walked in the pitch dark for about an hour to the entrance they had used earlier.
However the 4.2-metre high gate was now shut. Rather than turn back Karen McCormack impaled her armpit climbing over the spiked gate, resulting in extensive injuries and horrible scarring.
Ms. Justice Bronagh O'Hanlon has found security personnel should have been on hand to direct concert-goers but also she ruled the then 23-year-old was 20% to blame for her own misfortune.
Ms. McCormack, who is now living in Australia, has been awarded €75,000 damages.
€30,0000 of that will not be paid out to allow MCD to appeal the decision. They say Ms. McCormack knew it was dangerous to climb the gate and that she acted in a reckless, foolhardy manner.
