A woman’s body has been discovered in County Roscommon. 

Gardaí said the woman was in her 50s and her body was found yesterday afternoon at Curraghaleen, close to the town of Athlone. 

The body has been taken to University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem examination by the Deputy State Pathologist and the local coroner has been notified. 

Gardaí are examining the scene and a residential property is being searched; two cars have also been seized. 

A senior investigating officer at Athlone Garda Station has been appointed to lead the investigation and family liaison officer has been assigned to support the family.
