The world’s oldest newly-weds married earlier this year at 100-years-old and 103-years-old.

Earlier this year, Bernard Littman and Marjorie Fiterman got married in Philadelphia, America, after dating for nine years.

The traditional Jewish ceremony set a world record as the pair entered married life.

Mr Littman’s granddaughter Sarah Sicherman told Moncrieff the ceremony was “small” as they “don’t have too many friends left”.

“It was at their nursing home, just in their party room, and it was a traditional Jewish ceremony,” she said.

“We had a Rabbi there, a couple of witnesses and the family.

“It was very short - they did the traditional breaking of the glass at the end and my grandfather got up and was able to do that from his wheelchair.

“Then we just had a little bit of a celebration, some cake and champagne to wrap it all up.”

Passing ships

Ms Sicherman said there were pieces of her grandfather’s wedding speech with information that she didn’t even know.

“I knew that my grandfather went to the University of Pennsylvania, but I didn't know that Marjorie went there and they were actually enrolled in school at the same time, their paths never crossed,” she said.

“It was just a funny thing to learn that back in the day, in the 1940s, they were on the same campus together without knowing each other.”

Traditional couple

Mr Littman and Ms Fiterman were both previously married for 60 plus years and decided to marry each other after Ms Fiterman underwent hip surgery.

“While she was in surgery, I guess my grandfather just decided why wait and when she came out of surgery, he was like ‘We should just get married’,” Ms Sicherman said.

“They are very traditional, so they wanted to make sure they were married before living with each other.

“So, they had a very quick engagement before the actual ceremony and now they're living together.”

Ms Sicherman jokingly described Ms Fiterman as a “cougar” as she is over two years older than Ms Sicherman’s grandfather.
