Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony accounts, including falsifying business records.
The charges relate to allegations that Mr Trump paid hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016 in exchange for her silence - Ms Daniels alleges they had an affair in 2006.
Mr Trump arrived in New York last night ahead of his arraignment and has been blogging about his experience on his social media platform Truth Social.
“Heading to Lower Manhattan, the Courthouse,” he posted.
“Seems so SURREAL — WOW, they are going to ARREST ME. Can’t believe this is happening in America. MAGA!"
He has previously described proceeding against him as a “witch hunt” and claimed the Judge “HATES ME”.
Mr Trump’s lawyers told the BBC it is unlikely a mugshot will be taken as Mr Trump has "the most recognised face in the world" but he will have been fingerprinted.
It is expected that he will return home to Florida on bail this evening where he will address supporters.
Mr Trump is the first American President in history to face criminal proceedings in the United States.
