A man who said a mixture of alcohol and anti-epilepsy medication caused him to drive the wrong direction down a dual carriageway has being jailed for three years.
Mark McCarthy’s “crazy driving” included driving against traffic on a roundabout, executing a hand brake turn and driving at speed up the wrong side of the road on October 3rd 2011.
A garda told the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that he became involved in a high speed pursuit of the Volvo being driver by McCarthy after he saw the car fail to stop at a stop sign.
The chase ended when McCarthy crashed his car and tried to escape.
McCarthy of Elm Dale Crescent, Ballyfermot pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment ,dangerous driving, drunken driving and driving without insurance.
